Remix For Victory Submissions

Many thanks to all the producers who took the time to remix the Soundsci "Dig For Victory" tracks, we've been overwhelmed with the response with mixes coming from all over the world. If you missed the competition there's still time to enter as it's currently a Louis Den Challenge with the deadline this Sunday 31st Jan 6pm GMT, cop the acapellas here. The winner will be announced after Sundays Live stream so we have a decent amount of time to digest all the remixes, any questions holla! For now check the remixes that have already been submitted, enjoy!

FREESTYLE This Friday @ The Bulls Head

I'm currently getting all the Soundsci Remixes together and uploaded so hold tight, had a great response with entries from all over the world, many thanks to everyone who has taken part.

Sam Redmore's FREESTYLE night has just gone weekly and he's got me playing tomorrow night. FREE before 10pm and £2 after, if you need more info click here I'll be playing a selection of hip-hop, funk, reggae, soul and anything else that takes my fancy

Remix For Victory Competition FREE DOWNLOAD

The rules are simple, remix any track of your choice using the acapella’s provided (we’ve tagged the bpm’s on the end for ease). You can listen to the originals here http://soundsci.bandcamp.com/album/dig-for-victory-ep (if you purchase the release you’ll get an additional 3 acapella’s all of which can be used too). Then submit your remix to info@crateescaperecords.com You have until the Monday 18th January to send your remix, with the winner being chosen by Soundsi and featured on a future release, sample clearance permitting, not that we’d advocate that sort of thing obviously ;) In submitting it you agree to us putting it up on bandcamp so listeners can also judge for themselves and to be as fair to each producer as possible, please also include credits and contact details if you would like them listed. Audessey and U-George will also record a track for free for the winner as a prize or Jonny will make you a beat if you rap too, can’t say fairer than that!

That’s all there is to it, good luck!

Louis Den Beat Battle 08 TONIGHT Please note NEW VENUE!!!

TONIGHT! New Venue, New Venue, New Venue!

BUDGIE
Louis Den's own BUDGE is reppin on the boards for this one..you've heard the range from the screw face bangers to the smooth jam mack soundtracks, Budgie is a sick producer and sought after DJ...he's bound to impress!!

WIZARD
Hastings based producer and one half of the OSB'z Wiz is a LDBB vet reppin since homework #4 back in 2007!!, he's been waiting patiently to get on the bill and now its his turn..you know the beats, the boombap bounce to the chilled out headnodders and the endless free releases he churns out!...wiz is a total package and one of the hardest working beatmakers in the UK!

GHOST TOWN
Sick production team originally from Leeds now based in london (and mostly just a 1 man operation). Ghosttown have credits for Foreign Beggars, Mystro, Guilty Simpson, Phat Kat and more...check the thread I posted earlier in this week for look into their new london based "squat" lab..expect sick beats!

CHEMO
Badboy producer (no not for diddy..you know what I mean). Chemo's put the work in behind the boards for years now and has the credits to prove it JOE BUDDEN, KYZA, TRIPLE DARKNESS, VAKILL, SEAN PRICE (do we need to continue??!). Fresh out the Killamonjaro labs Chemo's out to bless the den with BANGERS!.

and on the mic we have Birminghams own JUICE ALEEM (big dada/shadowless) fresh off his release JERUSALAAM COME.

VERB T blessing us for the second (but 1st official time hopefully) after not being able to show for what was the second beat cypher (with S-TYPE, JAISU, DARREN PAUL & ROEG DU CASQ)..Verbs was unable to make it due to family commitments but he's back with a vengance to finally rep for the beat cypher!.

and finally SLEAZE DA DON aka Hermes Trismegistus from the south coast (originally West Bromwich) Sleaze is a dope emcee with a unique delivery and style...teaming up with Eat Good's SONNYJIM for a joint EP (coming soon on eatgood/greasy vinyl) sleaze is here i brum to show you what he's all about. Sleaze recently dropped his LP THEOLOVISION on his own imprint "GREASY VINYL" which features producers WIZARD, BEAT BUTCHA, GHOST, ENDEMIC and more!.

And of course it wouldnt be a Louis Den Beat Cypher without the usual selections from DJ CRO and our OPEN BEATS and BUCKS FIZZ BEAT BATTLES..(all den heads are encouraged to rep for this so please bring a beat CD, dont be shy..I dont want to have to struggle for entrants again!)

NEW VENUE
Reason for the promo train on this LDBC being a bit late was because we were venueless!!, after going back to the Sunflower Lounge to secure Decembers date I was told they have changed the music policy and werent too keen on the "Smoking" that went on outisde...not sure what the whole mess was down to im guessing (as the owner was there that night of beat cypher 07) they didnt like the fact we overran slightly and maybe our little "car beats" session outside, so umm yeah we are now at the BIRMINGHAM SOUND BAR which is a much sicker venue (but comes at a price)...so please smoker squad, go for a little wander before you do what you do, dont want to bait up this joint too! and doooo come out and support, plenty more overheads this time so we gotta keep this one going (bring a mate and tell them bring a mate, and tell em both to bring beats!!)

More than 15 years into their musical journey, The Herbaliser just keep getting bigger, stronger and better. It all began in the early 1990s when West London duo Jake Wherry and Ollie Teeba discovered a shared passion for hip-hop, rare groove, funk and jazz. James Brown, DJ Premier, Lalo Schifrin, David Axelrod and Serge Gainsbourg were their youthful heroes.
Expanding their live line-up to a nine-piece in the late 1990s, Herbaliser became acclaimed festival favourites around the globe. Playing to increasingly large and appreciative crowds also helped Jake and Ollie broaden their studio working methods.
With a new emphasis on classic soulful songwriting, the main vocal focus these days is on a new recruit, the supremely talented 22 year old Londoner Jessica Darling. With Easy Access Orchestra members Ralph Lamb and Andy Ross also on board, Herbaliser now have a firm five-piece collective at their core.

Breakestra @ The Hare and Hounds Sat 21st Nov

Yeeeeah Breakestra make their long overdue Birmingham debut at The Hare and Hounds, if you've not seen them before your in for a treat...if you have seen them before you've already bought your ticket! I'll have a dig through my vaults for my interview with them when they played at the Warwick Arts Centre a few years back (damn just checked and it was just over 5 years ago!) Also got two of their live sets from their previous tour back in my Breakin' Point days (shouts to Chris) but need to dig them out and undecided if I should share them or not, enough requests and I will. Support form Funkbox and Sam Redmore, it's going to be one of the gigs of the year! Facebook info here

J-Zone Knows Whats Up

It's all about tapes! Stilts, Canns and Percy know the time. Great to see Zone's got the Baritone Tiplove Livin' Foul cassette too. J-Zones also got one of the best blogs on the net get peepin
Look out for the Paten Locke track on the next show too, should be up later today...

Real G's Rock Tapes from richdirection on Vimeo.

D'Angelo Voodoo EPK

This is good, wonder how many others are out there in cyber space now, any recommendations just leave a link in the comment box. Crazy seeing Eric Clapton in the video too, I'm going to play the album tonight

Bonus Redman EPK from Whut, one of my favourite hip-hop albums with so many memories for me growing up. Thanks to the original uploaders too. I'd treasured my Gangstarr and Beastie Boys promo VHS tapes but since they've put everything out on DVD they're not quite so special

When People Take Things A Bit Too Seriously...

Wow, I mean I grew up playing SF2 Turbo (shouts to Percy), Mario Kart, Sonic etc and still enjoy playing games every now and then, but these people need to get out abit more (or get locked up cause they really shouldn't be allowed in society!). I think he actually means he loves the game buts a little upset he deleted his save file or he wouldn't have been playing it for 17 hours straight (or have milk on his lip, the ladies will love him after this) Thanks to OJ for the link

Further proof that some people might need to get out abit more, this ones for Audessey, thanks to Joe Davies

Finally, if you needed to see anymore and props to Terror
