Main Ingredient 19-10-09 w/ Rhyme Traveller & Peaks

Rhyme Traveller

Massive thanks to Rhyme Traveller and Peaks for last nights show, technical difficulties meant one of the mics kept cutting out and it had to be recorded at mine so felt abit like my old pirate days (big shout to Robin for the equipment usage as we couldn't have done the show without him!) A few tracks need adding to the play list, I'll fill in the blanks once I've had a chance to listen back to the show, RT also vocal-ed the only unrecorded Solid N Mind track 20 years after the beat was made so make sure you listen all the way to the end. As usual not enough time so hopefully get him back on the show soon.

Happy listening

DJ Buddy Diamond Exchange Mixtape

More musical treats to make your friday go faster, this time DJ Buddy mixes up four tracks from the Diamond District album In The Ruff and a bunch of solo material from each of the group members, click the pic or here to get your download on and you can buy the tracks I Mean Business and Who I Be.

Have a great weekend

45 Live

I used to love them, then went through a period of preferring 12"s (do I have to pause that on a hip-hop blog?) and then back to getting as many hip-hop 7"s as I could so what can I say about this besides I need one in my life! The track list alone is enough to make any b-boy drool. In stores 1st December so in plenty of time for Christmas if anyone is feeling (very) generous! Going to be interesting to see how the tracks are ordered and if the 7"s have any sort of inner sleeves...

Eminem, Black Thought and Jazzy Jeff, Hip-Hop Honors Rocking Bells

Jeff's still too good, check the end of the clip. This is from the 2009 Hip-Hop Honors Show

Trippin' at the Disco

Dope new vid for the latest PUTS single (well worth picking up for the dope DJ Day remix and dub remix, the 12"s pretty limited though so be quick) looking forward to the album now

Le Donk and Scor-zay-zee

Yep I know I wouldn't usually do a post on a film but this ones an exception. My better half booked tickets for an advance screening at The Electric (oldest cinema in the UK!) with Shane Meadows and Paddy Considine doing a Q&A after (unfortunately no Scorz), sounds like the film business is just as shady as the music business, Q(-tip) record industry rule number 4080 I don't want to spoil the film but it will hopefully be on at a local cinema near you now (released 09-10-09) and I'm giving it the two thumbs up (pause), too many rofl moments so don't snooze! It's a strange mix of improvised comedy and part reality. It's on till Thursday 15th Oct.

Scorz links up with the P Brothers for one of his most infamous tunes (made the Daily Telegraph!)

Cappo and Scorz murder this, make sure to grab the Cappo Codex EP for the incredible The Looniest too (Cappo's back on the radio with Endemic on the 9th Nov to launch the Needle Drop Record)
Word is Scorz is officially out of retirement and signed a new deal which is great news, now get down to your local cinema, it's better than any other film out at the moment and may be the best film this year

Gryme Tyme!

So you love hip-hop? But you don't feel that it's quite the same as it used to be? Here's what you've been missing. The Freestyle Professors consists of Branesparker and Giff (previously Geo of Geo & Ricochet). The first thing that hits you is how raw the album is (this is a good thing) with sparse production and some dope flows. Production is mostly handled by Branesparker, the Freestyle Professors have also used the talents of DITC's Show(biz), Buckwild, Diamond D and Lord Finesse with Diamond's beat the best thing I can remember him doing since "The Great Diamond D", Shows contribution is a dope raw drum loop with not much else, but it stands out and makes me wish other rappers would chose this type of beat over his more recent sounding productions. Minnesota and 12 Finger Dans contributions are highlights too but it's Branesparkers own production that really shines here.

Theres a few guests and it's great to hear Stanley Grimes again (pka Page the Handgrenade) after wondering what happened to him after his appearance on Check Me Out Baby Pah from Finesse's amazing Crates To The Files (is the first 2lp pressing a boot or semi-legit?) Akbar appearing on two tracks was also a pleasant suprise.
Lyrical content is varied from battle raps to more conscious subject matter. I haven't listened to one album this much in years so that should be recommendation enough to go get a copy.

LISTEN TO THE ALBUM SNIPPETS HERE

I was meant to do a post on the great Confuse A Few 12" (below next to the equally dope Vintage EP) and took that pic back in April so I've been slacking. This also contains the non album tracks "We Won't Stop" and "Grit Dat Grime" as well as the Confuse a Few", "We Won't Stop" and "Jump On It" instrumentals. Jump On It has the most heavily distorted bass line I've heard in years. If your interested in buying any of the Freestyle Professors material CLICK HERE, or visit them on myspace here.
