MI Playlist, Download, Gigs and things...

Thanks to Soweto for coming on the show last night, my levels seemed pretty low after the Herbaliser gig the night before. This Friday (30th) Heducation are hosting the DMC Midlands heats at the Custard factory, good luck to all competitors...

Alternatively Barrowclough is having his album launch at the Hare and Hounds, £2 in with Live sets from Barrowclough, Benjamin Blower and HLI 8pm-1am.

Saturday is Soweto's Flyover Show, incredible line up (see above) and FREE, 1pm - 9pm

Jibbering vs Jam Jah is the perfect way to carry on the party @ Rooty Fruiti with Peckers curry included in the £5 entry and it's running from 6pm - 4am

DJ MK
has started a blog and it's definitely worthy of a e-bookmark.

Heres last nights show, mail me your requests, shouts, comments etc. Finally updated my Top 20 and have a good week,

Gigs and Things...

My good friend Barrowclough will be performing at Scratch Club tonight, usual open mic and decks too so no excuses

Friday sees The Bee's doing a DJ set at the Hare and Hounds alongside Guy Carlos, £2 in, they've got a great mix cd out at the moment too so don't sleep on that either.

Bank Holiday Sunday sees The Herbaliser return to Birmingham for their first live gig in a good few years just before their new album is released on K7! Support from Chris Read, Mad Flow and DJ Maxwell (Birmingham Jazz). Will be a heavy gig and the first time the Town Halls had a late licence!

Hopefully some live guests on Mondays show, I'll write more once confirmed. The last few show downloads are still live too so grab em if you haven't already (just scroll down abit).

Some Video's Worth a Gander

Ahead of Mondays radio show and a busy week of gigs, I thought I'd post some more dope videos

First up OC and AG, produced by Show(biz) and cuts by Premo...

Keeping it Premo related the new Year Round Promo vid (thanks RD)

A newish video for a track that NEEDS to be released officially on VINYL damn it! Az feat Styles P or Styles P feat AZ depending on who's mix cd you buy! Both produced by the Large professor though ;) anyways the beat BANGS!

One of my favourite mid 90's tracks I didn't have the pleasure of seeing the video for at the time, make sure you grab the 12" for it as you get an even better mix with Lord Finesse

Enjoy your weekend

Understanding Club Sandwiches to get some Dap

As it was another week off from the radio thought I'd post up some video's for your viewing pleasure, you know to watch while you're supposed to be doing work, you'll also notice I'm on some next level ish, posting both youtube vids AND myspaz ones, don't ask me how I do it, I'm just gangsta like that. First up is some GTA out takes...

Although Chima no longer gets "Mad Hoes", you can probably catch him in a hospital near you, understand?

Next up is the Louis Den Beat Battle 21 - Club Sandwich, please note I've stolen the following text "A very special ldbb filmed in a secret location with crazy ldbb fam appearences!!; what started off a little trip to see Prolifik (ab0181) turned into a crazy meet up where we decided to host a Louis Den as there were so many heads there. In the 'Secret Location' were Kosyne, Kelakovski, Prolifik, Jaisu, S-Type, Sivey, DJ Cro, Budgie and Leatherface; check the outro to see what the little meet up was all about."

and finally a lil teaser for all you beat heads out there...

Oh and I'm playing at the Bulls Head this Thursday for the Jibbering Sessions, probably to a load of unappreciative drunks and then supporting Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings on Sunday at the Yardbird with the rest of the Funkbox massive. Have a gander at the links to the right too, I've added some new ones, all good clean family fun and essential reading

MI 31-03-08 w/ Foundation Collective, Gigs, FREE Roots Manuva Tickets and Mo...

Tonight see's Replife from Oakland perform at the Yardbird for Foundation Collective who guested on Mondays radio show, unfortunately gremlins in the system means theres no playlist but I can tell you the Foundation boys dug out some classic mid 90's joints while I played mainly new stuff, happy listening, I'll try and type up the tracklist if I get the chance.

Main Ingredient Radio Show 31-03-08
http://www.sendspace.com/file/6ht94k

Kurious Demo's have started to make there way out to the public, props to Werner Von Wallenrod for the first review, peep it here and read plenty of other great interviews and write ups. Not many copies of the vinyl left so be quick!

Shouts to S-Type, Kosyne, Kela, Prolifik, Budgie, Le
atherface, Sivey and Jaisu, peep the video for the science... I'll get the new Louis Den ish up as soon as I can too.

Unfortunately KL fromthe group Screwball passed away last week due to an asthma attack, condolencies to his family and friends, head over to Unkut for some great tunes and some history.

I've got a pair of tickets (FREE TICKETS!!!!)to give away to see Roots Manuva and MK at Koko next Saturday (thats the 12th Mo fugga's) with the Shape of Broad Minds in support (Don't know if it'll just be Jneiro but we'll see) all you gotta do is email me, first to do so gets the tickets. I was going to set a hard question like what record is Roots Manuva's first vocal apperance but I'm not sure anyone actually cares so just email me!

The Apples destroyed the Yardbird on Tuesday night and their new album is blinding, we've got copies exclusively at Jibbering if your quick (it's not out officially till May!!!) it's only on CD as they're still waiting on the wax, still a worthy purchase.

Tomorrow is the Jibbering Session at the Hare and Hounds, info on the flyer above.
Can't forget to mention that Funkbox are supporting Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings next Sunday at the Yardbird, hope you've got tickets already as it's sold out.

Kam's also started a dope little blog worth a gander including some nice downloads of mixes, tracks and some nice pictures.

Have a great weekend

Some recommendations...

First up the bad news is the Main Ingredient Radio Show is now going to be fortnightly due to work commitments, hopefully I'll be able to update the blog with other stuff more regularly though.

Secondly you shoulds check Jon Phonics new album "Half Past Calm", not only is it very dope, it's FREE so no excuses, featuring Verb T, Sir Smurf Lil, Triple Darkness etc

DOWNLOAD IT HERE

Thirdly I realised I still hadn't posted my best of '07 list so here goes

Feel free to add your own additions in the comments section as I'm going to have missed a few things ;)

First off a few things which didn't make it onto wax before '07 but were made a good few years earlier

Godfather Don - Slave Of New York EP (DWG)
Baritone Tiplove - Livin' Foul 2LP (previously tape only)
Kool Keith & Kutmasta Kurt - Sex Style Unreleased Archives (Thresh Hold)
Ultimate Force - I'm Not Playin' Album (Traffic)

A few 7"s have come out too, I'm not going to list all the funk I've bought either...

Black Milk - Stern (Fat Beats)
DJ IQ - 8 Bars Of Fire / 9 To 5 (Mancan)
DJ Spinna - Dilla is the G.O.A.T. / Dillagence (Cult 45)
EPMD - Rampage Demo Mix (unfortunately it's a bootleg but so good to have this finally to play out)
Now and Again Re:sounds Boxset - 7 great 7"s
Paul White > Dragon Fly (One Handed Music)
Saint feat Cadence & NYOIL - All Love (Jakarta)

On the 12" front theres been some amazing releases...

Big Shug - Play It (Babygrande)
Black Milk - Sound The Alarm Remix (Fat Beats) think the OG 12" was 06?
Connie Price & The Keystones feat Big Daddy Kane & Percee P (Scion)
Def Tex - Thanks But No Thanks Album Sampler (Son)
Ed209 - Stayexstatic 12" (VRD)
EPMD - Main Event (Dehop)
Freestyle Professors - Vintage EP (Freestyle Professors)
Geo & Ricochet - A Lil Sum Em Sum Em (Freestyle Professors)
Ghostface Killah - The Champ 12" (Starks Ent) for the much better demo mix
Ghostface Killah - Celebrate (Def Jam)
Guilty Simpson - Mans World (White)
Heralds Of Change - Sittin On The Side (All City)
Jazz Addixx - Say Jazzy (Goon Trax)
J.Dilla - Wild / Make Em NV (Stonesthrow)
Kanye West > Classic Remix (Nike)
Nas Where Are They Now Remixes (Ill Will)
Nine:Fifteen - Walking Thru Fire (Candle Wax)
Marco Polo - The Radar (Soul Spasm)
Marco Polo - War / Nostalgia (Soul Spasm)
Memory Man feat Kool Keith - The Kool Keith Show (Chopped Herring)
MF Grimm - Earth (Shogun)
Pete Rock - 914 (Nature Sounds)
Phat Kat - Cold Steel (Look)
Percy Filth - Don't Take It Percynal (Aerosolik) bit biased on this one but uff it!
Scienz Culture - Ginsu (Sunshine Ent)
Skyzoo & Torae - Click (Fat Beats)
Sputnik Brown - Are You Having Fun Yet (High Water Music)
Termanology - So Amazing (Brick)
Stig Of The Dump feat RA The Ruggedman - Braindead (Beer and Rap)
Ultimate Force - Girls (for the incredible Supreme Diamond D track BANANAS!)
Y-Society - Never Off (Tres)

It's been a quiet year for dope albums, people just don't seem to want to craft a decent body of work and seem content with making throwaway mix cd's and quadruple albums of filler. Heres the releases I can listen too pretty much in their entirity and that came out on wax...

Big Shug - Street Champ (Babygrande)
Black Milk - Popular Demand (Fat Beats)
Heliocentrics - Out There (Stones Throw)
Marco Polo - Port Authority (Soulspasm)
NYG'z - Welcome 2 G Dom (Year Round)
Percee P > Perceverance (Stonesthrow)
Pharoahe Monch - Desire (SRC)
Polyrhythm Addicts - Break Glass (Babygrande)
Shape Of Broad Minds (Lex)
Wajeed - War LP split over 2 x 12"s (Fat City)
Y-Society - Travel At Your Own Pace (Tres)

Some CD's that you do need to cop though...

Aroe's Crown Jewels (not sure if this is 07, but uff it it's too good)
Buckwild - D.I.T.C Rare Studio Masters (Ground Floor)
Cappo - Directors Commentary
Conspicuous - The Family Photo Album (Sit Tight)
Def Tex - Thanks But No Thanks
DJ IQ - Live From The Sofa (Mancan)
Lord Finesse - Rare & Unreleased (Underboss)

Although J-Love put out some nice 12"s this year, he should stop releasing CD's with drops all over them.

A special mention also goes to Traffic for reissuing alot of the old Cold Chillin releases as 4LP sets with loads of bonus material and 12" mixes

Kool G Rap & DJ Polo - Road to The Riches
Kool G Rap & DJ Polo - Wanted Dead Or Alive
Master Ace - Take A Look Around
MC Shan - Down By Law

Instrumentals...
Samon Kawamura - Translations (Nesola)
J.Dilla - Ruff Draft Instrumentals (Stones Throw)

It's also been a great year for picking up older records but I'm not going to bore you with my personal finds.
As for promo items, they seemed abit thin on the ground this year with everybody going mp3 crazy, but Stonesthrow knocked out a nice Ruff Draft cassette and a great looking boxset, just a shame about half the music in it! They redeemed themselves with the excellent Now Again Re:sounds 7"boxset though. Great to hear Scor-zay-zee making a comeback too.

Please add any other releases you feel worthy in the comments

cheers

Cro

MI Playlist, Detonate 9th Birthday Giveaway, Pics and Live stuff

Thanks to everyone who came out to Our Corner on Friday & to see Vadim on Saturday, hopefully some pics from that to follow.

I've got a free pair of tickets for Detonates 9th Birthday celebrations in Nottingham with the highlight for readers of this blog probably being seeing Little Brother live. To get a pair of tickets all you have to do is email me putting "Detonate 9th Birthday" as the subject line and remember to include your government name and your friends government name or they won't know who you are when you get there!

Jibbering Sessions @ Hare & Hounds also promises to be a blinder with Nicky Blackmarket, Freefall Collective Live, Jahman Sillah Live, Guy Carlos (Bees Tour DJ) and the Jibbering and Africa Jam DJ's supporting, £6.50 in advance, more on the door.

Rising Styles Festival have extended the deadline for track submissions so if you've got something to submit it's not too late, more explained on the show as my guest was one of the organisers who also played some African and Chinese Hip-hop!

Blake 9 guest mix is an excert from his excellent "Give Back" mix, if your not familiar with his work as a DJ or producer of Nine:Fifteen or the Acorns then have a gander at his website or the Candlewax myspace and be sure to come and get a free copy of the mix from the shop while they last.

GTA, TLG & Reggimental on next weeks show, GTA will also be playing @ Scratch Club on the Tuesday.

Here's a few pics from Crate Escape Label Launch Party and some digging that went on the following day, props to Kid Dynomite, Beatdetective, Stilts and the residents for making it such a dope night. The bottom picture is courtesy of Pie with plenty more on his myspace.

Have a great week and heres this weeks show for your listening pleasure

Yeah thats right, more freebies! This time it's for Asaviours excellent Play 2 Win 2 mixed by DJ IQ. To win a copy all you have to do is email me (address on the right) with Asaviour as the title and a copy can be yours, act quick though, I've only got a couple to give away!

This Friday is the launch party for my new record label "Crate Escape Records", I've invited the Daily Diggers up as special guests to play alongside the Funkbox residents all the details above.
